Moussaka

You will need:
  • 10 medium size potatoes
  • 1kg minced beef meat
  • 1 can (400g) of diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 large carrot
  • 200g sour cream
  • 200g cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • thyme
  • dill
  • salt and pepper
  • sunflower oil

Start by peeling the potatoes. Slice them into chips and fry them in hot sunflower oil until cooked.

Separately in a large pan start preparing the meat sauce. Place in 1-2 tablespoons of oil the diced onion. When it's turning soft add the diced carrot and let it cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the meat and mix continuously until the meat starts turning white. Pour the tomatoes and also the tomato sauce together with 150-200ml water, salt and pepper and some dry thyme and let it cook until the liquid has evaporated. If you wish now you can add also green chopped dill.

In a tray start assembling the moussaka by placing first a layer of potatoes, followed by half of meat mixture, then again potatoes, the other half of meat mixture and in the end a layer of potatoes.

On top of the moussaka add a mixture prepared as follows: beat 2 eggs, add sour cream and the grated cheese.

Place the tray in the preheated oven (170C degrees) and let it there until it turns golden brown.
